Philip Robinson Library
I have access to the accessible study rooms. I have ADHD and dyslexia. I find rooms 225, 304, 404, 313 and 413 very difficult to focus because of noise. 225 noise is from people and the door staircase next to it from use of door and slamming when it shuts. 304 and 404 are near the toilets and staircase doors so very noisy when doors are used. 313 and 413 is the worst because it is very close to the toilets and again when people using the doors it is very noisy. Also room 404 light switches off constantly when working and internet connection drops out, which makes it hard to focus. 306 and 406 are my go to rooms. :)

Library Response

Thank you for getting in touch regarding your issues with the accessible study rooms.  Unfortunately, we are unable to soundproof all of the rooms completely due to their locations.  There are door closers on all of the doors in the library that should soften the noise slightly and I will get our team to service these to ensure they are all in working order.

I will also have someone check the lighting in 404 and hopefully get that rectified for you.

If the noise of the doors in any of these rooms continues to bother you, we also offer earplugs that can be requested at the service desk and should also help dampen the residual noise.

Kind Regards,

Louise Fitzpatrick
