NHS smart cards
I have NHS smart card. I have to get a new one made every year. While I understand that there are security issues etc I am very concerned that we should be doing everything possible to minimise plastic use. Is there a way to reactivate the old card, or lengthen the period that the card is valid for? I realise that this might not be possible for every person but for those of us with permanent NHS contracts it seems very wasteful.

Library Response

Many thanks for taking the time to send us some feedback, it is much appreciated.  I'm afraid that due to the system currently in use, we are unable to reactivate smartcards which have expired.  The one year expiry date was set by the Faculty for security reasons as you have acknowledged, we continue to view this as a priority.  That said, I do share your concerns over wastefulness and we will continue to look for ways to resolve this whenever the opportunity arises.

Kind regards,

Linda
