Vending Machine Water
The cost of water in the vending machine is ridiculous. The cafe area is open for limited hours, therefore if you forget to bring a bottle it costs £2.30 for 500ml of water.

Using a private company for this machine is a waste - there are better alternatives eg invest in a machine and add cheaper stock. This would resolve problems with the machines much faster, rather than waiting for an external workman to 'be available to fix it'

For the benefit of students and staff please look into alternatives.

Library Response

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch with us via Tell Us What You Think; student feedback is important to us and we appreciate it when users take the time to contact us.

I personally agree that the prices in the vending machine are steep and don't represent value for money. We try to provide alternatives and choices for all users with both the cafe area and with access to a quick-boll hot tap and a new water fountain that will be installed shortly (admittedly, not quite as effective without a bottle but a more economical alternative!). There are also other campus catering spaces within the building, including Dental Bites and the Atrium Cafe.

The vending machines themselves are supplied on a University contract that is controlled independently to the Library. Unfortunately any other investment would still require external engineers to fix any mechanical issues with the machine itself as this is outside out expertise and that of our Estates Team.

Best wishes,
