Which file format should I use to submit my print job?

Answer

Our preferred file format for digital printing is PDF and any file type you send will be converted to PDF format.

While Microsoft Office is readily available to all Newcastle University staff and students it can be problematic when creating materials such as flyers, leaflets, booklets and posters. The dpi is too low and can give a washed out look to your proof and final product.

For higher quality outputs we advise you to use Adobe Illustrator, InDesign or even Photoshop.

If the only software available is Microsoft Office then Publisher is recommended as Power Point is designed for on screen presentations not printing. Microsoft Word is fine for theses, forms, questionnaires or standard documents.

We can accept Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Abode Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, JPEG and TIFF files.
