We are changing to EndNote 2025

You may have noticed we now have access to EndNote 2025, the newest version of the reference management tool supported by the University. This update won’t change too much about how EndNote looks and works, but will bring a couple of highly useful new features to explore.

  • AI-powered "Key Takeaways" feature

A new feature which utilises generative AI to extract the main points from any articles added to EndNote, summarising the individual papers. These concise summaries will be useful for researchers in determining the usefulness of a paper for the intended purposes.

  • Cite directly from PDF files

This feature allows users to highlight a section within a PDF they have added to EndNote, and have it inserted into their Word document with a seamless click. This will help ensure quotes are correctly cited, and makes for a streamlined process.

  • AI-powered "Find a Journal" feature

A feature for using EndNote with Word Online, this uses AI to analyse key components of papers, and makes suggestions of further papers to explore and help with researcher discovery. By entering a papers title and abstract the tool will produce a curated list of journals identified as most relevant to the users work.

How to access EndNote 2025

The University supports the latest version of EndNote, currently EndNote 2025, which is available in all clusters and on any University-owned machine.

To update your version of EndNote to EndNote 2025 on your personal device, please submit a request via the NUIT Service System. On the Support Portal homepage, choose 'Request Something' then search for 'Endnote'. Select 'Request EndNote Personal Use' from the results and complete the request form.
