The Library does not have access to SAMS attendance data but we can troubleshoot faulty smartcards. Staff at the Library Help Desk (at the Philip Robinson or Walton Library) can check to see if your smartcard is working and fully programmed.
If any of these checks show there are no faults with your smartcard then it is either user error or a problem with the SAMS scanner itself causing the issue. The library cannot solve these issues but we can give the following advice:
- Please ensure you are using your correct smartcard - any old smartcard that has been replaced but found and used is out of date and will not work. Please destroy it yourself or bring it to the library to be shredded.
- Make sure you are scanning only your student I.D. If you are scanning the smartcard still in your wallet, phone or using a lanyard with other cards stacked on top of or behind your student I.D. this will cause interference and prevent the scanner from collecting the correct data.
- When scanning, wait until the light turns green before removing your card from the scanner to ensure it has correctly registered your attendance.
- You must scan within half an hour of the event starting and half an hour before it ends
If you suspect the SAMS reader is at fault, please report it back to your school, they should be able to examine specific event data and then raise a ticket with the NUIT helpdesk: https://www.ncl.ac.uk/itservice
