Converting your document to plain text is useful if you need to make manual edits to your text or share your document with others. This process creates a duplicate copy of your document that removes all EndNote field codes meaning it can no longer be edited with EndNote.

To convert your document into plain text:

  • Open your document in Word (ensure you have saved any changes)
  • Select the EndNote ribbon
  • Click on Convert Citations and Bibliography > Convert to Plain Text
  • A pop up window will appear telling you that it will open a new window with a duplicate, unsaved copy of your document with all EndNote markers removed. Click on OK.
  • Save the plain text version
  • You should now have two versions of your document
