There are hundreds of different referencing styles available in EndNote. Select the 'style' drop down box on the toolbar in EndNote (see screenshot below) and if you can’t see the style you want on the list, click on ‘Select another style’. You can search for the style by scrolling down the list or entering a keyword (e.g. Chicago) in the search box. Simply click on it when you find it, then select 'choose'. You will then see your chosen style in your EndNote library.

There is a similar drop-down menu in the EndNote tab in Microsoft Word, which will allow you to change the style that you are using.

If the style you need is not in the list, you may be able to download it using EndNote's Style Finder.

Follow the instructions below to add the downloaded style to your EndNote library:

  1. Download the style file required.
  2. Browse to the location where you downloaded the style. Right-click on the style file and select 'Copy'.
  3. Drowse to your EndNote Styles folder:
    • if you are using your own P.C. or laptop this will typically be in following location: C:\Program Files\EndNote #\Styles (Where # is the version number for EndNote)
    • if you are using a campus P.C. we recommend you create a 'Styles' folder in your EndNote folder on your H drive
  4. Right-click in this folder and choose 'Paste'.
  5. Your style should now be installed in the EndNote program.
  6. If the style has not appeared in EndNote, go to Edit > Preferences > then in the grey box select Folder locations and make sure that your Style Folder location is correct.
