There is a Quiet/Contemplation Space in Room 327/8 on Level 3 of the Philip Robinson Library, developed as a pilot in response to student feedback. It is a neutral space open to people of all faiths, or non-faith, and can be used as a place to sit and contemplate, to pray or to take a few moments to de-stress from a busy day.

There are also two dedicated faith and prayer spaces available on Newcastle University campus: the Chaplaincy Office, available for those of all faiths or none, located in Agriculture Building; and the Muslim Prayer Room located in the King George VI Building. There are also two quiet rooms available in the Urban Sciences Building, which can be used for prayer and reflection.

These facilities are primarily provided for the use of Newcastle University students and staff who hold a valid smartcard. They are not intended for public use. Immediate family members and authorised guests may only use the prayer and faith spaces when accompanied by a holder of a valid smartcard, and they must sign the visitors’ book provided by the University for this purpose. The Muslim Prayer Room is open from 3am until midnight daily, allowing for the observance of the five daily prayers.

More information about faith at the University and places of worship can be found on the Chaplaincy's web pages. The University's Faith Space Policy and Library's public facing FAQ is also attached.
