Library Help: Academic Skills
Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
With the exception of sign language interpretation, we do not allow additional people to be present in the consultation room or on a call whilst your appointment takes place. Our appointments are designed to operate on a one-to-one basis and we require that students engage with us independently.
For an in-person appointment, you can bring someone to accompany you to the Academic Skills Hub if you need assistance, but we will expect them to remain in our adjacent waiting area for the duration of your one-to-one. If this isn’t possible for you, it’s likely that we’re not the best team for you right now and we will advise you to postpone/reschedule your appointment. If you’re not currently able to manage a 50-minute appointment with us unaccompanied, we encourage you to discuss this in the first instance with Student Wellbeing, Disability Support, and/or any other healthcare professionals you might be working with, and book in to see us at a later date when our service is more likely to be useful to you.
Please feel free to contact us at academicskills@ncl.ac.uk if you have any questions or if you’d like to discuss any assistance/accessibility requirements prior to a booking.
The layout of our teaching space, with both the waiting area and the consultation rooms, can be seen on our YouTube video: What to expect in an Academic Skills one-to-one appointment.
Please let us know on your booking form if you will be bringing someone with you to wait whilst your appointment takes place. Assistance/service dogs are welcome.
