I am supported by a disability support advisor. Can I also make an appointment with the Academic Skills Team?

Answer

Yes, you can. However, each team has a separate are of expertise; the support offered by each is not interchangeable. Your Disability Support Advisor's role is to help minimise the impact of your disability on your studies by, for example, identifying support requirements like longer loan periods for your books, provision of accessible study rooms or specialist software, and additional time in exams. They are also able to liaise between you and your School about the impact of your disability and discuss how your School might best accommodate your needs.

The Academic Skills Team are not specially trained in supporting students with disabilities, but we can help you develop more effective approaches to writing and all aspects of studying (including academic reading and revision).
