Staff and students of Newcastle University can print to a University printer using a laptop.

1) Connect to https://nuprint.ncl.ac.uk

2) Select your file.

3) Follow the onscreen instructions to choose your printer anywhere on the University Campus.

More information on this service is available here: www.ncl.ac.uk/itservice/clusters/printing/nuprint/

  1. This page states that it is possible to print to "any university printer", but the list of options is not exhaustive (KGVI Building is not included, for example) and it is not clear how to print to printers not included in the list.

  2. Dear Dr Brandt,

Thank you for your comment. This information came directly from NUIT. I will ask them for additional information on the service and will post it here once received.

  3. Dear Dr Brandt,

    Thank you for your feedback.

The text in the Library Help entry has now been amended to '...a University printer'.

NUIT has responded with the following information. The printers currently available on NUPrint include Cluster Printers and certain printers which have been requested by Schools via their School Office or Local IT Support; if you would like a specific printer to be added to the service, you should initially direct your request that way.

  4. The advance setting does not allow you to print 2 pages on one side?

  5. Thank you for your comment. May I check, before contacting NUIT, this is the option you see when using the advanced option through the nuprint.ncl.ac.uk service?

To print this job, select a printer below:

    Print »

    Number of copies:
    Print from page to
Double-sided print (works only if the printer supports duplex):
    None
    Long-side (most common)
    Short-side

Print in black/white even if document contains color:

  6. Thank you for your patience. NUIT have responded with this information:

“…from the screen shot display it appears the printer has duplex options so can print double sided but what the student has asked for is for 2 sides to be printed on one page, this is not a printing option but a document layout option, this would need to be set up within the application they are printing from.”

I asked if there were any general guides on how to do this (e.g. while using standard programs such as Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat):

“…the document will need to be set up before sending to nuprint, the guides will vary depending on the document type, there will online guides/forums available but can recommend the student may also visit the connection clinic at the Old Library building.”

    Best wishes,
