You can renew your books provided that they have not been requested by other readers.

University staff and students should log in to Library Search using their campus ID and password.  NHS and External users should log in using the U number from their smartcard – e.g. U50123456 – and their library password (contact the library if you do not know what this is).

Your name should appear towards the top right, near where you clicked to log in. If it doesn't, and/or there is a series of numbers showing instead, please contact the library.

Go to My Account and renew the item or items from there.

You can also renew books by telephone (0191 208 7713), in person or via Library Help.

There is a limit to how long an item can be renewed:

  • general (4 week loans) - 36 weeks
  • one week loans - 7 weeks

When this limit is reached you have to bring the item to the library for renewal.

You will not be able to renew your books if you have outstanding overdue charges of more than £5. To pay them, you should go to the Service Desk or telephone 0191 208 7662. If an item has been requested by another reader (a hold request) you will not be able to renew it and its due date may have been changed by our system. Please return a requested book as soon as possible to the library from which you borrowed it. Requested books returned after the due date will incur a recall charge plus an additional charge if also overdue

Inter-Library Loan items are not automatically renewable. You should bring the item back to the Library on or just before the due date so that staff can check that renewal is possible. You will be charged £1.50 for the renewal and no further renewal will be possible.
