An e-journal (electronic journal), is a journal that is available online in an electronic format. Much like an e-book, you can read e-journal articles online on most devices, and individual articles can also often be downloaded to read offline.

Some e-journals may only be available electronically, while others are electronic versions or digitisations of a print publication and will contain the same content and information as their print counterpart.

While you can browse an e-journal, much like the print version, it is usually also possible to search e-journal contents quickly and easily using keywords.

To find e-journals in Library Search:

  • Enter the title of the Journal or some topic keywords into the search bar
  • Ensure Everything except articles is selected and press search
  • Use the filters on the search results page to limit Resource Type to Journals and Availability to Full Text Online
  • Follow the online access link to view the journal

You can also search for individual articles within most e-journals we subscribe to on Library Search:

  • Enter the title of the article or some topic keywords into the search bar
  • Ensure the Everything option is selected, and press search
  • Use the filters on the search results page to limit Resource Type to Articles and Availability to Full Text Online
  • Follow the online access link to view the journal article
