Many of Newcastle University's Campus PCs are now using Windows 10 as the standard operating system.

Changes include:

The Start button has changed slightly in Windows 10, and there are two new options which appear alongside the Start button:

Windows button.pngStart button / Windows Icon. Left click on this to access the Start Menu, right-click for a list of computer-management shortcuts (including Sign out)

Search Icon. Left click on this to open a search window. Type the name of any program or setting for Windows to find it for you.

Task view. Left click on this button to see all windows open on the desktop. Similar in use to the functionality of Alt + Tab but can be done with the mouse instead.

The new Windows 10 set-up on the University's Cluster PCs has changed how your personal settings are accessed. Unless you are using the same Campus PC each time, you will have to manually open your EndNote Library every time you want to use it. It is easy to do:

  1. Click on the Start button (or ignore 1-3 and use the Search icon to search for EndNote)

  2. Select Database Software.

  3. Select EndNote X8.

  4. An 'Introducing EndNote X9' window appears - click on Ignore This.

  5. You will be presented with an EndNote End User License Agreement - click the 'I accept the license agreement' radio button and Next.

  6. You will be presented with a 'Welcome to EndNote' window. Do not attempt to set up an account at this point - click on the X to the top right-hand corner of the pop-up window to close this option.

Welcome to EndNote pop-up window; click to close this.

You will need to open your EndNote Library manually:

  1. Click on File and Open Library.

  2. Locate your EndNote Library (.enl) in your home drive (H:\) and click on Open.

  3. Open Word and work as normal.

More information, help and FAQs on the use of EndNote is available in the EndNote Guide.
