Newcastle University is a member of the SCONUL Access scheme. SCONUL Access is a reciprocal scheme which allows many university library users to access other academic libraries in the UK and Ireland (please note that not all university libraries are members of the Scheme).  It is important to set up your membership of the SCONUL Access Scheme and check access rights BEFORE visiting the library of your choice.

Students who study at a University outside the UK or Ireland are not covered by the SCONUL Access scheme, but you are welcome to consult our collections as an "Occasional Visitor" if materials are not readily available elsewhere.

Unless your visit is part of an open day or open event, occasional visitors to the Philip Robinson or Walton Library must have pre-arranged a visitors pass by contacting us via Library Help or calling the Philip Robinson Library (01912087662) or Walton Library (01912087550) at least two days prior to your planned visit.

Access is available during Service Desk opening hours except for University exam and revision periods, which includes 7th January – 25th January 2019, and 6th May - 7th June 2019.

Visitor passes are non renewable and valid from 1 day up to 4 weeks.  If you wish to use the University Library on more than one occasion, membership of the University Library will be required. Please refer to Individual Membership.
