EndNote X8 is getting rolled out this Friday night (26th January 2018) on the desktop across campus and it will be getting rolled out on RAS from Tuesday 30th January 2018). It will take a few weeks before this takes affect on all the computers.

I liked EndNote X7, why are you changing?
Clarivate, the owners of EndNote, made a very sudden announcement before Christmas (2017) that any new user to EndNote X7 (the version which the university has been using) who sets up a desktop library and then wants to sync it to create an online account wouldn’t be able too. Users who had already synced their account wouldn’t have a problem, but it would hit those new users. This would then put new users of EndNote at a disadvantage.

So what’s the difference between X7 and X8?:
Not a huge amount! The same functionality is still there, it just has had a bit of a makeover. The only main difference is that with X8 version you can share your library with 100 people rather than 14. To find out about other changes, please click here to see a comparison chart.

Are you going to be updating the EndNote workbooks and EndNote library guide?
Yes, we will be working away in the next few weeks to get these updated for you. However, due to the fact that they aren't any huge differences in the functionality of EndNote X8, the old workbooks will still be sufficient in the interim. If you want to look at some specific EndNote X8 specific advice you can go to the Clarivate X8 support pages by clicking here

Will I need to do anything?
No the update should happen automatically. If you see a box asking you to update to EndNote X8.2 when you open up EndNote, you can click yes and this will give you the latest version of EndNote X8. However, it is not necessary to do this.
