Staff and students of Northumbria, Durham, Sunderland and Teesside University have reference access throughout the year at the Newcastle University Library during Service Desk opening hours on production of a valid campus ID card or library card.

Access for staff and students from other institutions is through the SCONUL Access scheme. SCONUL Access is a reciprocal scheme which allows many university library users to access other academic libraries in the UK (please note that not all university libraries are members of the Scheme).

It is important to set up your membership of the SCONUL Access Scheme and check access rights BEFORE visiting the library of your choice.

We welcome visitors seven days per week in term during our Service Desk opening hours on production of a valid campus ID card or library card AND a copy of your SCONUL approval notification email.

Access at other times of year for students from other UK institutions is as follows:

Christmas vacation: Access during Service Desk opening hours is available on production of your valid campus ID card or library card and SCONUL approval email.

Newcastle University Library operates on a self-service basis during the holidays between Christmas and New Year.  Access at this time is by Newcastle University Smartcard only.

Easter Vacation: Please show a valid campus ID card or library card and a copy of your SCONUL approval notification email during Service Desk opening hours .

Summer Vacation: Students from all UK Universities can use Newcastle University Library on production of a valid campus ID or Library Card during Service Desk opening hours

Admission during Self Service Hours is available to Newcastle University smartcard holders only.
